Super high up. Lake Tahoe sits 6,225 feet above sea level in the Sierra Nevada mountains, which makes it the largest alpine lake in all of North America.

Massive freshwater lake. This lake holds so much water that it's the second biggest lake by volume in the entire United States, beaten only by the five Great Lakes combined.

Incredibly deep. Lake Tahoe plunges down 1,645 feet deep, making it the second deepest lake in the United States, with only Crater Lake in Oregon going deeper.

Mountain border lake. The lake straddles the border between California and Nevada, so part of it belongs to each state.
