Champion of children. Astrid Lindgren won a huge award called the Right Livelihood Award in 1994 because her books celebrate children's rights and treat kids as unique individuals, not just people to boss around.

Pippi Longstocking creator. She invented Pippi, one of the most famous girl characters in children's books, along with other beloved characters like Emil of Lönneberga and Karlsson-on-the-Roof who still make kids laugh today.

Translated into dozens of languages. By 2017, Astrid Lindgren was the world's 18th most translated author, meaning her stories have been read by children in countries all across the globe.

Writer for many media. She didn't just write books, but also created screenplays for movies and shows, bringing her imaginative characters to life in different ways.

Animal welfare fighter. Lindgren cared so much about animal welfare that her campaigning led Sweden to create a special law called Lex Lindgren, which was passed just in time for her 80th birthday.
