A bottom dweller. Atlantic cod live on the sea floor in the North Atlantic, where they hunt for smaller fish and creatures like shrimp and crabs.

Feeds billions. For hundreds of years, people have fished for Atlantic cod because it's tasty, nutritious, and plentiful, making it one of the most valuable fish in the world.

Seriously sized. These fish can grow up to 6 feet long and weigh over 200 pounds, though most caught today are smaller because so many have been fished out.

Egg-cellent producers. A single female Atlantic cod can lay millions of eggs at once, which is why there used to be so many of them in the ocean.

Family fish. Atlantic cod belongs to the Gadidae family, which includes other important fish like haddock, whiting, and pollock.
