Invisible shield. The atmosphere acts like a protective bubble around Earth, blocking dangerous ultraviolet rays from the sun and stopping most meteoroids from reaching us. Without it, life as we know it couldn't exist.

Temperature balancer. The atmosphere keeps Earth warm by trapping heat close to the surface, like a blanket. It also stops the temperature from getting too extreme between hot days and freezing nights.

Weather maker. Clouds, rain, wind, and storms all happen because of the atmosphere. It moves heat and moisture around the planet, which is why different places have different weather patterns.

Invisible ocean. The atmosphere is made of gases like nitrogen and oxygen mixed together. We can't see it, but we're living at the bottom of an ocean of air that gets thinner the higher up you go.

Life enabler. The atmosphere provides the exact conditions that let plants, animals, and people survive. It gives us the air we breathe and helps create the climate where all life thrives.
