Combining many sounds. Audio mixing takes all the different sounds (vocals, drums, guitars, etc.) recorded separately and combines them into one final recording that listeners hear. Think of it like a chef blending different ingredients to create the perfect dish.

Adjusting the volume. A mixer controls how loud or quiet each sound is. You might turn up the singer's voice so people can hear the lyrics clearly, while turning down background music so it doesn't overpower everything.

Shaping the sound. Mixers can change the frequency content, which means making sounds higher or lower pitched, and adjust dynamics to control how much a sound changes in volume. This helps every instrument shine without clashing with the others.

Positioning in stereo. Mixers can place sounds on the left or right speaker (or anywhere in between) to create width and space. This is called panoramic position, and it makes listening more interesting and immersive.

Creating the final product. The goal of mixing is to make a recording sound polished and appealing so listeners enjoy it as much as possible. A great mix lets you hear all the instruments clearly and feel the emotion of the music.
