Creator of originals. An author is someone who makes something new and original, whether it's a story, a painting, a song, or even a sculpture. If you made it and shared it, you're an author.

More than just writers. People usually think of authors as people who write books, but painters, composers, and sculptors are authors too. Anyone who creates something original in any form can be called an author.

Legal ownership rules. In the law, the person or company that paid for a work to be created is sometimes considered the legal author, even if someone else actually made it. This is called a 'work for hire.'

Many creative forms. Authors create in different ways: written words, images, music, videos, and sculptures all count. The work just needs to be original and shared with others.
