Incredibly heavy lizard. Barosaurus gets its name from Greek words meaning 'heavy lizard,' and it earned that title by being one of the biggest land animals ever to walk Earth.

North American giant. Fossils of Barosaurus have been found in the Morrison Formation of South Dakota, Utah, and Montana, showing this dinosaur ruled the western parts of ancient North America.

Diplodocus cousin. Barosaurus belonged to the Diplodocidae family, making it a close relative of the famous Diplodocus, but it was even more massive.

Late Jurassic resident. This towering dinosaur lived roughly 160 to 140 million years ago during the Late Jurassic period, when massive sauropods dominated the land.
