The perfect size. A baseball bat cannot be thicker than 2.61 inches around and cannot be longer than 42 inches. These rules make sure everyone plays fairly and safely.

Heavy or light?. Modern baseball bats weigh between 33 and 36 ounces, which is much lighter than the bats players used a long time ago that could weigh up to 48 ounces.

Wood or metal. Baseball bats are made from either smooth wood or metal. Each material feels different when you swing it and hits the ball in its own special way.
