Cool Facts
Rectangle with hoops. A basketball court is a flat rectangular space with a basket and rim at each end, usually 94 feet long and 50 feet wide for professional games.
Indoor wood floors. Indoor basketball courts are almost always made of polished wood, usually maple, because the smooth surface helps players move and bounce the ball predictably.
Height of the rims. Both baskets are set exactly 10 feet (3 meters) high from the court floor, the same height for every basketball game around the world.
Outdoor court surfaces. Outdoor basketball courts are typically made from concrete or asphalt instead of wood, since these materials can handle weather better.
Special glass courts. Some international competitions use glass basketball courts, which look amazing and let people watch from different angles while the ball and players are completely visible.
