Built in Germany. The Bauhaus was a famous art school that opened in Germany in 1919 and stayed open for 14 years until 1933. It became one of the most influential design schools in the entire world.

Art plus crafts. The school mixed fine art (like painting and sculpture) with practical crafts (like furniture making and metalwork). Teachers and students believed that beautiful design should be used to create everyday things people actually need.

Made for machines. Bauhaus designers didn't just make one beautiful chair by hand, they figured out how to design things that factories could mass-produce. This meant more people could own well-designed, affordable furniture and objects instead of just rich people.

Form follows function. Bauhaus designers believed that how something looks should come from what it does. A chair should be comfortable and sturdy first, and then the design should make it look beautiful, not the other way around.

Changed the world. The Bauhaus approach spread worldwide and influenced how we design buildings, furniture, dishes, and almost everything we use today. Its simple, clean style is still popular more than 90 years later.
