Records notes and sounds. A sequencer listens to the notes you play or type in and remembers them, storing exactly what you did so it can play it back perfectly every time.

Plays back your creation. Once you've programmed or recorded your musical ideas, the sequencer can play them back automatically, over and over, while you add more layers.

Lets you edit everything. You can change any note after you've recorded it, fix timing mistakes, adjust how loud things are, and rearrange your whole song without starting over.

Works as hardware or software. Sequencers can be physical machines with buttons and knobs, or they can be programs on your computer called digital audio workstations (DAWs).

Speaks musical languages. Sequencers use special codes like MIDI that let them communicate with synthesizers, drum machines, and other musical instruments and tools.
