Enormous water body. The Bay of Bengal covers 2.6 million square kilometers, making it huge enough to fit the entire United Kingdom inside it many times over. It's one of the world's largest bays.

Between two regions. The Bay of Bengal sits between the Indian subcontinent (where India is) and the Indochinese peninsula (where Thailand and Myanmar are). It connects South Asia with Southeast Asia like a watery bridge.

Borders many nations. Countries like India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, and Indonesia all have coastlines on the Bay of Bengal. Hundreds of millions of people live around its shores and depend on it for fishing and trade.

Part of the Indian Ocean. The Bay of Bengal forms the northeastern part of the much larger Indian Ocean. It's one of the most important oceanic regions in Asia.

Rich with life. The Bay of Bengal is one of the world's most productive fishing areas, providing food and income for millions of people who catch fish and shrimp there.
