Massive tidal swings. The Bay of Fundy's water level changes by about 16 metres (52 feet) between high and low tide, making it the highest tidal range in the entire world. That's like filling and emptying a bathtub the size of a bay twice every day.

Funnel shape matters. The bay has a special funnel shape that makes the tides extra extreme. As the ocean water gets squeezed into a narrower and narrower space, it builds up higher and higher, kind of like how a river gets faster when it flows through a narrow canyon.

Incredibly powerful flow. In just half a day, about 100 billion tonnes of water flows in and out of the bay. That's twice as much water as all the rivers on Earth combined move in the same amount of time, making it one of the most powerful water movements on the planet.

Located in Canada. The Bay of Fundy sits between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, with just a tiny bit touching the U.S. state of Maine. It connects to the bigger Gulf of Maine and the Atlantic Ocean.
