Spring celebration. Rongali Bihu happens in April and is the most important of the three Bihu festivals. It celebrates the arrival of spring and is a joyful time for the people of Assam.

Harvest feast. Bhogali Bihu takes place in January and celebrates the harvest with big community feasts where people gather to share food and celebrate the crops they've grown.

Quiet season. Kongali Bihu occurs in October or November and is a more solemn festival that marks a time when food is scarce. It's an animistic festival that reflects respect for nature during tough times.

Blended traditions. Bihu beautifully mixes together Tibeto-Burman, Austroasiatic, and Indo-Aryan traditions so completely that it's impossible to separate them, making it truly unique to Assam.

Community creation. All the different communities living in Assam contributed their own elements to create these festivals, which is why Bihu festivals are so special and belong to everyone in the state.
