Grandfather Frost. Ded Moroz's name literally means Grandfather Frost or Old Man Frost in Russian, though people usually call him Father Frost. He is a beloved figure in Slavic mythology with roots going back hundreds of years.

Winter gift giver. Similar to Santa Claus and Father Christmas, Ded Moroz brings gifts and spreads joy during the winter season. In Russian tradition, he arrives during New Year celebrations rather than Christmas.

Slavic origins. The tradition of Ded Moroz is especially important in East Slavic countries like Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus, where it has been celebrated for generations as a significant part of their culture.

Communist ban lifted. During the early Soviet era, communist authorities banned Ded Moroz because of his connection to old traditions and religion. However, the ban was reversed, and he soon became an important part of Soviet culture again.
