Founded NASCAR. In 1948, Bill France Sr. started NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) to organize stock car racing and make it safe and professional. He wanted to turn the rough-and-tumble racing that happened everywhere into a real sport with rules and order.

Raced himself. Before he became the boss of racing, Bill France Sr. was an actual race car driver. He competed in stock car races and understood what drivers needed, which helped him build NASCAR the right way.

Built a speedway. France helped create the Daytona International Speedway in Florida, which became one of the most famous race tracks in the world. The biggest race there, the Daytona 500, is still considered the Super Bowl of stock car racing.

Grew a giant sport. Bill France Sr. spent decades running NASCAR and making it bigger and bigger. He convinced companies to sponsor races, got TV networks interested, and turned racing into the sport millions of fans love today.

Created the rules. France wrote the rulebook for stock car racing, deciding everything from how cars should be built to how races should run. These rules made sure racing was fair and exciting for everyone.
