Teeny but toxic. Blue-ringed octopuses are small enough to fit in your hand, but they carry venom as dangerous as any snake on land. Just a tiny amount of their poison can seriously hurt a big animal.

Glowing warning rings. These octopuses have bright blue and black rings all over their bodies that glow when they get scared or angry. When the rings light up, it is their way of saying, 'Stay away!' to anything nearby.

Masters of hide-and-seek. They live in tide pools, coral reefs, and rocky crevices across the Pacific and Indian Oceans, from Japan all the way to Australia. Their yellowish skin helps them blend in with sand and rocks.

Picky eaters. Blue-ringed octopuses hunt tiny creatures like crabs, hermit crabs, and shrimp hiding in the ocean. They use their venom to paralyze their small prey before eating it.

Color-changing tricksters. Their skin can shift colors dramatically in seconds, going from pale to bright blue when threatened. This quick change helps them communicate their mood to other animals.
