Walking Tank. Borealopelta was a nodosaur, which means it was covered head to tail in thick bony plates called osteoderms that worked like a suit of armor to protect it from predators.

Reddish Pink Skin. Scientists discovered special structures called melanosomes in the fossil that told them Borealopelta had reddish pinkish skin, making it one of the few dinosaurs whose actual color we know.

Last Meal Preserved. The fossil was so well preserved that scientists could even see what the dinosaur ate for its last meal, finding plant material still inside its stomach.

Found at Oil Sands. Workers discovered this amazing fossil at an oil sands mine north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, during their everyday digging.

130 Million Years Old. Borealopelta lived during the Early Cretaceous period, making it one of the best preserved dinosaur fossils of its size ever found anywhere on Earth.
