Brine Shrimp

Officially called Artemia. Brine shrimp are a special kind of aquatic crustacean, which means they're related to crabs and lobsters but are teeny tiny.

Salt water champions. They thrive in waters so salty that fish and most other animals can't survive there, which keeps them safe from predators.

Found almost everywhere. Brine shrimp live in inland saltwater lakes around the world, and sometimes even in oceans, making them super adaptable creatures.

Ancient mystery creature. Way back in the 900s, an Iranian geographer spotted them in Lake Urmia and called them 'aquatic dogs' because people didn't quite understand what they were.

First real scientific record. In 1757, a scientist named Schlösser drew detailed pictures of brine shrimp from England, giving us the first clear proof of what they actually looked like.
