Special worship halls. Buddhist temples called chaityas were built as gathering places where people could pray and listen to teachings together. These halls were designed to feel peaceful and help people focus on their beliefs.
Stone towers with meaning. Stupas are dome-shaped stone structures built to hold treasures and remind people of important Buddhist teachings. Many stupas became popular pilgrimage destinations where people would visit to show their respect.
Homes for monks. VihΔras are monasteries where Buddhist monks live, study, and practice their religion together. These buildings were designed with separate spaces for sleeping, eating, teaching, and meditating.
Built across Asia. Buddhist architecture spread from India starting in the 5th century BCE to many countries across Asia, creating unique styles in each place. Each region added its own special touches while keeping the core ideas the same.
