Master of Numbers. Gauss was so good at math that he solved impossible-seeming problems in number theory, algebra, and geometry that other mathematicians had been stuck on for years. He invented new ways of thinking about numbers that mathematicians still use today.
Sky Watcher. As director of the Göttingen Observatory in Germany, Gauss studied the stars and planets and helped develop geodesy, which is the science of measuring Earth's shape and size. He used math to make these astronomical discoveries more accurate than ever before.
