Writer and artist combined. A cartoonist does two big jobs at once. They write the funny jokes or exciting stories AND draw all the pictures. Most artists only do one or the other, but cartoonists do both.

Comics and cartoons. Cartoonists create everything from comic strips in newspapers to comic books to animated cartoons. They might draw a tiny funny strip with just three panels, or design entire graphic novels with hundreds of pages.

Their own ideas. Because cartoonists write and draw their own work, the story and the pictures come from the same person's imagination. This means the jokes, characters, and art style all fit together perfectly.

Famous and beloved. Some of the world's most loved characters were created by cartoonists, like Garfield, Peanuts, and SpongeBob SquarePants. These characters became so popular that they appeared on toys, TV shows, and movies.
