Cool Facts
Enormous selenite crystals. The cave contains massive crystals made of selenite, a mineral form of gypsum, some of which are thicker than tree trunks and stretch across the cavern like giant beams.
Located in Mexico. The Cave of the Crystals is found beneath the Naica Mine in Chihuahua, Mexico, sitting 300 metres deep underground.
Incredibly huge space. The cave chamber stretches about 109 metres long and holds between 5,000 to 6,000 cubic metres of space, making it a truly vast underground room.
Part of a mine. This crystal cave is connected to the Naica Mine, where miners originally discovered this incredible natural wonder while digging for valuable minerals.
Took millions of years. These giant crystals formed slowly over an extremely long time as hot mineral-rich water cooled and crystallized inside the limestone rock.
