Shared Celtic languages. What made someone Celtic was mainly speaking a Celtic language, not where they came from or what they looked like. Celtic languages were spoken by many different groups across Europe, from Spain to Turkey.

Spread across the continent. Major Celtic groups included the Gauls in what is now France, the Britons in Britain, the Gaels in Ireland, and the Galatians in Turkey. They weren't one unified empire but separate peoples who shared cultural and language connections.

Iron Age warriors and craftspeople. The Celts were known for their skilled metalwork, intricate art, and fierce warrior culture. They built hillforts and settlements and created beautiful decorated objects that archaeologists still study today.

Related but separate groups. Different Celtic peoples sometimes fought each other and sometimes traded together. The Celtiberians in Spain, the Picts in Scotland, and the Boii in central Europe all had their own identities while sharing Celtic language and culture.

Mysteries remain unsolved. Scholars still debate exactly how to define who was Celtic and how all these groups connected to each other. It's one of history's puzzles that keeps researchers thinking.
