Cool Facts
Opening Lizard. Chasmosaurus got its name because it had big holes in its bony frill. 'Chasm' means opening, so the name literally means 'opening lizard'.
North American Dinosaur. This dinosaur lived during the Late Cretaceous Period in what is now North America, long before people existed.
Medium-Sized Dinosaur. Chasmosaurus was about 14 to 16 feet long and weighed around 2,200 to 5,000 pounds, making it smaller or average-sized compared to other horned dinosaurs.
Fancy Frill Design. Its frill had openings that made it lighter than a solid frill, kind of like how a skeleton is lighter than solid bone. Scientists think the frill helped it look impressive to other dinosaurs.
