Cnidaria: The Stinging Animal Masters

Stinging superpowers. Cnidarians have special cells called cnidocytes that work like tiny harpoons filled with venom. They use these cells to stun and capture prey, which is how jellyfish and sea anemones catch their meals.

No brain needed. Instead of a brain like you have, cnidarians have a nervous system spread throughout their whole body. This simple setup lets them react to light, touch, and chemicals in the water around them.

Jiggly bodies. Cnidarians are mostly made of a squishy, jelly-like stuff called mesoglea sandwiched between two thin layers of skin. Their bodies are over 95% water, which is why they feel so gelatinous and soft.

Double reproduction trick. Many cnidarians can make babies in two different ways: by splitting off copies of themselves or by making eggs and sperm. This flexibility helps them survive and spread to new places.

Ancient ocean dwellers. Cnidarians have been living in oceans for hundreds of millions of years, making them some of the oldest animals on Earth. They lived in the seas long before dinosaurs walked on land.
