Entertainment Competitions. Game shows are broadcast programs where people compete against each other by playing games, with the chance to win money, prizes, or both.

The Host's Job. A host runs the entire show by explaining the rules, asking questions, commenting on what's happening, and keeping the energy high for viewers at home.

Started Long Ago. Game shows began in the late 1930s on both radio and television, but they really took off in America during the 1950s when they became a regular daytime TV feature.

Fighting for Rewards. Contestants battle it out on stage trying to answer questions correctly, solve puzzles, or complete challenges so they can win exciting prizes.

Daily Entertainment. By the 1950s, game shows became such a popular part of television that they aired regularly during the day, giving families something fun to watch together.
