Curved-back hunter. Concavenator's name means 'spoon hunter with concave back.' It had a distinctive hollow curve along its spine that made it look quite different from other large meat-eating dinosaurs.
Spanish fossil find. Scientists discovered an almost complete skeleton of Concavenator in Spain at a famous fossil site called Las Hoyas. This made it one of the most complete dinosaur specimens found in Europe.
Meat-eating giant. Concavenator belonged to a family of dinosaurs called carcharodontosaurs, which were some of the biggest and most powerful predators that ever walked Earth. These dinosaurs hunted large plant-eating dinosaurs in their environment.
Ancient Spain. This dinosaur lived during the Early Cretaceous period about 125 million years ago, when Spain's landscape was much different than it is today, with different plants, animals, and climate.
