A mountain masterpiece. The Crazy Horse Memorial is a giant sculpture being carved directly into a mountain in the Black Hills of South Dakota. When it's finished, it will show Crazy Horse riding a horse and pointing toward his tribal lands, reminding people of his bravery and connection to his homeland.

Who was Crazy Horse. Crazy Horse was an Oglala Lakota warrior famous for protecting his people and their way of life. He's remembered as a fearless leader who fought to keep his tribe's lands and traditions alive.

Started by a request. A Lakota elder named Henry Standing Bear asked sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski to create this monument to honor Crazy Horse and his people. It was an important way to celebrate Native American history and culture.

Still being built. The memorial is still under construction today, more than 80 years after it started. Carving a mountain takes an incredibly long time, but the project continues with dedication to complete this tribute.

Massive and powerful. When finished, the Crazy Horse Memorial will be even larger than Mount Rushmore, showing just how important it is to honor this legendary warrior and his people's story.
