Incredible animal kingdom. The Maasai Mara is home to lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and hundreds of other species that roam across the grasslands together.

Named for the spotted landscape. The word Mara means spotted in the Maa language, the Maasai people's own tongue, because of all the short bushy trees that dot the landscape when you look at it from far away.

Home of the Maasai. The Maasai people have lived in this area for centuries after migrating from the Nile Basin, and the reserve is named in honor of them and their deep connection to the land.

Connected to Tanzania. The Maasai Mara sits right next to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, making one giant ecosystem where animals freely move between the two countries.

Great Migration route. Millions of wildebeest and zebras travel through the Maasai Mara each year in one of nature's most amazing journeys, following the rains and fresh grass.
