A legendary race. The Daytona 500 is a 500-mile-long NASCAR race held every year at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. It's so important that it starts off the entire NASCAR Cup Series season every year since 1982.

Brand new beginning. The very first Daytona 500 happened in 1959, the same year the speedway opened its doors. This made it the perfect way to celebrate a brand-new racing track.

Speedy restrictions. From 1988 to 2019, the Daytona 500 was one of four special races where cars had to use restrictor plates. These plates limit how fast engines can go to keep the racing safe and fair.

Coastal champion. Florida hosts three big NASCAR Cup races every year, and the Daytona 500 is the most famous one. The other races happen at different Florida tracks like Homestead near Miami.
