Drawing without words. Instead of talking, you draw pictures on paper or a whiteboard to help your teammates guess a secret word. You get points when your team figures out what you're drawing before the timer stops.

Invented in 1985. Robert Angel created Pictionary and first published it through Angel Games Inc. The game's clever name mixes the words 'picture' and 'dictionary' together into one fun word.

Team-based fun. You play Pictionary in teams, which means everyone works together to guess the drawings. This makes it a perfect game for parties and family game nights where groups compete against each other.

Game company journey. Western Publishing bought the rights to Pictionary in the 1980s, and then the toy giant Hasbro purchased it in 1994. Today it's one of the most popular drawing games in the world.

Charades meets art. Pictionary is inspired by the game charades, except instead of acting out words with your body, you draw them with a pencil or marker.
