Cool Facts
Super long neck. Dippy is a Diplodocus, a dinosaur with one of the longest necks of any creature that ever lived. This long neck helped Dippy reach high leaves in trees that other dinosaurs couldn't eat.
World's most famous dinosaur. Dippy is considered the most famous single dinosaur skeleton in the entire world. More people have probably seen a copy of Dippy than any other dinosaur skeleton.
Copies sent everywhere. A rich businessman named Andrew Carnegie donated plaster casts of Dippy to major museums around the world in the early 1900s. This meant that people everywhere could learn about and see this amazing dinosaur.
London's long guest. One famous copy of Dippy was displayed at London's Natural History Museum for over 100 years, from 1905 until 2017. British kids and adults saw Dippy for longer than almost any other copy.
Original still stands. The original skeleton of Dippy is kept in the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is where scientists first put all the bones together.
