Nemegtosaurus

Massive plant-eater. Nemegtosaurus was a sauropod dinosaur that stretched 39 to 43 feet long and weighed about 20 tons, making it as heavy as three elephants combined.

Only a skull remains. Scientists have never found a complete skeleton of Nemegtosaurus, just a single skull that was discovered in the Nemegt Basin in Mongolia's Gobi Desert.

Pencil-shaped teeth. Its mouth was full of thin, pencil-like teeth perfect for stripping leaves from tall trees, and its skull was long and low like other sauropod plant-eaters.

Surprising dinosaur mystery. For a long time, scientists thought Nemegtosaurus belonged to one sauropod family based on its skull shape, but new research proved it was actually a titanosaur, a different group of giant long-necked dinosaurs.
