Pink blooms first. Eastern redbuds burst into beautiful pink and magenta flowers in early spring, even before their leaves come out, making them some of the earliest signs that winter is ending.
Shrub or small tree. This plant can grow as a bushy shrub or a taller tree, depending on where it lives and how it's planted, so it's flexible enough for many different yards and forests.
Wide home range. Eastern redbuds grow wild from the cold forests of Michigan all the way down to Mexico, and they're tough enough to survive as far west as California and as far north as Canada.
State tree star. Oklahoma chose the eastern redbud as its official state tree, and the town of Columbus, Wisconsin loves it so much they call themselves the 'Redbud City' and celebrate it every spring.
Deciduous and leafy. These trees drop all their leaves in fall, which means they give you four different seasons of beauty from bare spring branches to full green summer shade.
