Cool Facts
Motor assistance. E-bikes have an electric motor that kicks in to help you pedal, so climbing hills or going long distances becomes much easier and less tiring.
Rechargeable power. E-bikes run on rechargeable batteries that store electricity, kind of like the battery in your phone or video game controller.
Still pedal-powered. Even though they have a motor, e-bikes still need you to pedal them, so they're a real bike, not a motorcycle.
Speedy travel. Most e-bikes can reach speeds of 25 to 32 kilometers per hour (about 15 to 20 miles per hour), with some going even faster up to 45 kilometers per hour.
Two control styles. Some e-bikes need you to pedal to make the motor work, while others let you control the motor with a button or twist-grip like a moped.
