Encaustic Painting

Hot Wax Magic. Encaustic painting uses heated, melted wax mixed with colored pigments that artists apply while hot. The wax hardens as it cools, creating a smooth, durable finish that can last for thousands of years.

Beeswax Base. The main ingredient in most encaustic paint is beeswax, often mixed with damar resin to create the perfect consistency. Artists can also add powdered pigments, inks, or oils to get any color they want.

Applied Carefully. Artists use brushes or special tools to spread the hot, melted wax mixture onto prepared wood panels or sometimes canvas. The heat keeps the wax liquid enough to spread, and once it cools, the artwork is set.

Super Durable. Encaustic paintings are incredibly tough and can last for thousands of years without fading or cracking easily. This is why artists have used this technique since ancient times.

Ancient Tradition. People have been making encaustic paintings for over 2,000 years, and some of the oldest surviving paintings in the world were made this way. It's one of the longest-lasting art techniques ever invented.
