Modern Tech Secret. Today, etching is super important in making computer chips and circuit boards for phones and computers. Tiny patterns are etched into silicon and other materials to create the pathways that make electronics work.
Protected and Exposed. Artists coat the metal with a waxy or plastic layer called a resist, then scratch away the design. The acid eats only where the metal is exposed, leaving the protected parts untouched.
