Ruler of birds. Fenghuang means a special magical bird that was believed to reign over all the other birds in Chinese tradition, making it the ultimate king or queen of the sky.
Two names in one. The word fenghuang actually comes from two original names: 'feng' was used for males and 'huang' for females, but over time people stopped making that distinction.
Balance with dragons. While the Chinese dragon represents power and masculine energy, the fenghuang represents harmony and is seen as more feminine, and the two are often paired together as symbols of perfect balance.
Symbol of luck. Seeing or thinking about a fenghuang brought good fortune and happiness to people in ancient China, making it a beloved figure in art, stories, and celebrations.
