Moving pictures with sound. Films combine images that move really fast (usually 24 pictures per second) with music, dialogue, and sound effects to create experiences that feel real and make us feel things.

Stories on screen. Directors use cameras, actors, lighting, and special effects to bring stories to life in ways that books or stage plays cannot, letting audiences see exactly what the director imagines.

Film around the world. Every country makes films in different styles and languages, from Hollywood action movies to French dramas to anime from Japan, so there are stories for everyone.

Relatively recent invention. Films have only been around since the late 1800s, but they became really popular after the 1930s when sound was added, which made them way more engaging.

Creates shared experiences. When you watch a film with friends or family, you all see the same story at the same time and can talk about what you felt afterward, making it a special connecting activity.
