Owl-shaped robot. Furby looked like a furry little owl with big eyes and a beak. It was created by Tiger Electronics and first sold in October 1998.

Huge holiday hit. Furby became a must-have toy right after it came out for the holidays. So many people wanted one that it was hard to find in stores during that season.

Speaking in languages. Furby could talk and make sounds in 17 different languages around the world. This made it feel like a real creature trying to communicate with you.

Record sales success. More than 40 million Furbies were sold in just three years. In 1999 alone, 14 million were sold, making it one of the biggest toy crazes ever.
