Tallest arch ever. At 630 feet tall, the Gateway Arch is the world's tallest arch. It's even taller than the Statue of Liberty, making it a record-breaking achievement in architecture.

Made of stainless steel. The entire arch is clad in shiny stainless steel that gleams in the sunlight. This special metal was chosen because it doesn't rust and stays beautiful for centuries.

Curved like a catenary. The arch has a special mathematical curve called a catenary, which is the shape a hanging chain naturally makes. This curve is perfect for spreading weight and making the structure super strong.

Gateway to the West. The arch was built to honor America's westward expansion, when pioneers traveled across the country to settle new lands. It became known as the symbol of this exciting historical journey.

Popular tourist spot. Millions of people visit the Gateway Arch every year to see this amazing monument. Visitors can even ride to the top in a special elevator called a tram to get incredible views of St. Louis and the Mississippi River.
