Giant Otter

Truly giant size. Giant otters can grow up to 1.8 meters long, making them the longest members of the entire weasel family. That's about as long as a tall fourth grader is tall.

Family group life. Unlike most weasels, giant otters live together in close family groups of 3 to 8 members. These groups are centered on a dominant breeding pair, and everyone works together to survive and stay connected.

The loudest otter. Giant otters are the noisiest otter species of all. They make distinct calls to tell each other about danger, to show aggression, or to give reassurance to their family members.

Daytime hunters. Giant otters are diurnal, meaning they are active only during the day. They rest at night while other river creatures come out to hunt.

Protective territory. Giant otters are generally peaceful but fiercely protective of their territory. When different groups meet, aggression can break out as they defend their home and family.
