Soldiers have worn them for centuries. Combat helmets help protect soldiers in dangerous situations. Modern military helmets are made from lightweight materials like Kevlar, which is super strong but doesn't weigh much, so soldiers can move quickly and comfortably.
Sometimes just for show. Not all helmets are for protection! Kings, queens, and people in fancy ceremonies sometimes wear ceremonial helmets that look amazing but aren't meant to stop impacts. They're more like crowns that show power or tradition.
