A Royal Residence. The Red Fort was built starting in 1639 as the main home of the Mughal emperors who ruled a huge part of India. Emperor Shah Jahan decided to move his capital from Agra to Delhi and built this magnificent fortress to live in.

Designed by a Genius. The same architect who designed the famous Taj Mahal, named Ustad Ahmad Lahori, created the plans for the Red Fort. This shows how important and special the fort was to the emperor.

Red and White Beauty. When it was first built, the fort had stunning red and white colors that made it shine in the sunlight. The red color is what gave the fort its famous name.

Two Styles Combined. The Red Fort blends Persian architectural styles with Indian designs, creating something unique and beautiful. This mixture shows how the Mughal empire brought different cultures together.
