Colorful Pioneer. Matisse believed that bright, pure colors could express feelings and emotions even better than trying to paint things super realistically. He'd use bold blues, reds, and greens in ways that surprised people but felt joyful and alive.

Cut-Paper Artist. Late in his life, when painting became hard for him, Matisse invented a whole new art form using scissors and colored paper. He'd cut shapes directly from paper and arrange them into stunning compositions, calling it "painting with scissors."

Master of Lines. Matisse was incredibly skilled at drawing with just a few simple, graceful lines that somehow captured the whole essence of a person or object. His lines seem to dance across the paper with confidence and beauty.

Free and Fluid. Instead of following strict rules about how art should look, Matisse trusted his instincts and let his hand move freely and expressively. This helped launch an entire movement in art where feeling mattered more than perfect accuracy.

French Master. Born in France in 1869, Matisse became one of the most important artists of the 20th century and influenced countless painters, sculptors, and designers around the world.
