Master craftsman god. Hephaestus was the god of blacksmiths, carpenters, and artisans in ancient Greece. People believed he controlled all kinds of skilled making, from metalworking to sculpture.

Fire and volcanoes. Hephaestus ruled over fire and volcanoes, and Greeks imagined his forge was deep inside a volcano where he created amazing objects. The heat and power of volcanoes were thought to come from his work.

Cast out by family. According to Greek myths, Hephaestus's own mother Hera threw him off Mount Olympus because he was born with a disability that made walking difficult. Despite this cruel treatment, he became the most skilled craftsperson among all the gods.

Creator of magical items. Hephaestus made incredible magical tools and weapons for gods and heroes, including Achilles's armor and Pandora's box. His creations were famous throughout Greek mythology for their power and perfect craftsmanship.

Symbol of hard work. Unlike gods who inherited their power, Hephaestus earned respect through dedication and skill with his hands. Ancient Greeks admired him as a symbol of the value of hard work and determination.
