Cool Facts
What it means. A hole in one (or ace) is when you hit your golf ball from the tee and it goes directly into the cup without bouncing around first. It's one of the most exciting things that can happen in golf.
Happens on short holes. Hole in ones are most common on par 3 holes, which are the shortest holes on a golf course. Par 3s are usually short enough for a skilled golfer to reach the cup in one powerful, accurate shot.
Very strong hitters only. Longer hitters have recorded holes in one on longer holes like par 4s and par 5s, but this is extremely rare. Most par 4 and par 5 holes are just too far away for anyone to reach in a single shot.
Skill and luck mix. Getting a hole in one requires both an excellent, well-hit shot and a lot of luck. Even the best golfers can't control every bounce, so sometimes the ball takes a lucky path to the cup.
The rarest record. As of 2021, only five golfers have ever recorded a condor hole in one on a par 5 hole, which is an incredible and nearly impossible achievement.
