Found King Tut. In 1922, Howard Carter discovered the tomb of the young pharaoh Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings. It was the best-preserved royal tomb ever found, packed with incredible artifacts that had been hidden for over 3,000 years.

Untouched treasure. When Carter opened the tomb, almost everything inside was still there, including furniture, jewelry, chariots, and even food meant for the pharaoh's afterlife. Most other tombs had been robbed long ago, making this discovery extraordinarily special.

Solved the mystery. Before finding the tomb, nobody knew what happened to King Tut or where he was buried. Carter's discovery revealed that Tutankhamun was only 18 or 19 years old when he died and gave us thousands of clues about how ancient Egyptians lived.

Trained and patient. Carter spent years studying Egyptian history and archaeology before his big discovery. He worked carefully and thoughtfully in the Valley of the Kings, documenting everything he found so scientists could learn from it for centuries.

Changed archaeology forever. Carter's discovery showed archaeologists the importance of careful, scientific excavation and detailed record-keeping. His methods became a model for how to explore and preserve ancient sites around the world.
