Cool Facts
Body in three parts. Every insect has a head, thorax, and abdomen. This three-part design lets them bend, fly, and move in amazing ways that bigger animals can't.
Compound eyes see differently. Instead of two eyes like you, insects have eyes made of thousands of tiny lenses packed together. This helps them spot movement super fast, even from the side.
Six legs always. All insects have exactly three pairs of legs, or six legs total. This gives them perfect balance for running, climbing, and even walking on water.
Hard outer shell. Insects wear their skeleton on the outside as a tough shell called an exoskeleton. It protects them like armor and helps them keep water inside their bodies.
Half of all animals. With over one million different species, insects make up more than half of every animal on Earth. That's way more than fish, birds, mammals, or any other group.
